Smugness comes before a fall...

| |
A little while ago I was thinking if I could sum up my life in a nutshell, how things were for me at that precise moment, in – let’s say - 140 characters - I probably would have put:
The Queen is Dead on the record player, duck legs roasting in the oven, ratatouille on the hob, banana bread in progress...#smugtweet

I decided not to sent this message to twitter, it just seemed too smug. Surely the natural balance of things would meant that if I showed off in that way, something would bring me down a peg or two.

Within a minute of all this, it all went a bit wrong. I added an egg to the rather tasty looking banana bread I was making, and dropped whole egg into my mixer, shell and all! Unfortunately, rather than press the lever to lift the mixer up and allow me to fish out the shell, I turned the mixer on full, breaking the egg shell into hundreds of crunchy pieces and distributing it evenly around my cake mixture.

A short but intensive sifting of all the ingredients through a sieve, to catch and remove all the egg shell meant the banana cake was salvaged, but I learnt an important lesson about oversharing and smugness on the internet. I shall try and avoid in future.

The banana bread was EXTREMELY TASTY. I was lucky not to polish off the mix of mashed bananas, sour cream and cinnamon all in one go, before it even made it into the cake. Thank you to Fabi for the fabulous banana bread recipe.
